LES SANTONS FOUQUE: Unique ancestral know-how
Santons Fouque are now known, collected and sold all over the world. Major exhibitions have been held in New York, Tokyo, Rome, Geneva, Avignon, Berlin... However, since the creation of the Maison Fouque in 1934, it is still in Aix-en-Provence, the cradle of their creation and source of their inspiration, that the famous santons are still handcrafted by Mireille Fouque and her son Emmanuel, with respect for Provencal tradition and detail.
For four generations, models have been created by hand by members of the Fouque family. Since Jean-Baptiste Fouque won 1st prize in sculpture and painting at the Beaux-Arts in 1892, from father to son or daughter, each generation has passed on to the next a unique know-how based on perfect mastery of the same modeling, sculpting and painting techniques.
This is the Fouque family's primary aim: to share their passion and attachment to this land of Provence, through the art of Santon making.
New santons are modeled every year. These pieces complete the Fouque santon collection, keep alive the memory of Provence's mythical characters: the Lavender carrier, the Olive gatherer, the Lady selling soap, the Rabassier, the Garlic carrier, the Calissonnier, The Aixoise, the Ravi, the Jar carrier, the Wood carrier, le gardener
These creations include, of course, the famous « Coup de Mistral © », an exclusive creation of Maison Fouque since 1952, considered the masterpiece of santon art.
